Regular coffee beans and espresso coffee beans are different in terms of the roast. Regular coffees are roasted to light medium to dark roasts, whilst espresso coffees are roasted to an espresso roast. This dark and chicory roast could give an excellent shot of espresso with the right equipment which brings the essense of aroma and flavour of coffee beans.

Italian Roast is commonly used in Southern Italy which gives intense, fullest-bodied and the most flavourful coffee. Usually it gives darker than normal roast and a more balanced and complex aroma. The beans glisten with natural oils which are essential in brewing.

However, description on roast such as French Roast, Viennese Roast and Italian Roast indicate a longer roasting time and darker colour, not necessarily related to geographical location.

Inherited from the tradition of espresso from Milan, Caffé Ottolina® insisted on its strict quality control on choosing coffee beans and careful monitoring the
whole roasting process to ensure that every coffee bean produced are of best quality. Italian roast gives black, shiny and pungent coffee beans which are excellent for espresso.
